It doesn't only matter if there is weather in Columbus or in Boston. There is likely weather along the route from BOS-CMH and there simply isn't enough "space" for the volume of aircraft going West from the Mid-Atlantic/New England. Cancellations for this reason happen all the time, unfortunately.

Correct. AA (and other airlines) will not give compensation for delays and cancellations caused by weather since it's "out of their control." It sucks, but that's the way it is. Your status will largely determine to what length they will get you to your destination (they will oversell a flight for a CK, for example).

ExpertFlyer is showing just about 0 availability on any flight leaving Boston tomorrow. Not sure what level status you have, but last year my BOS-PHL was cancelled due to weather and they offered to put me on a United Airlines flight. I was a PPro at the time. You may just have to get creative with the routings, or head to PVD/ORH/MHT/etc.

Zero chance given it's weather-related.

This might be due to the air traffic control changes to move some coverage from NYC to PHL. Apparently that has not gone well. If so, AA was right to tell you to contact the FAA.

Doubtful. It was control of the EWR air space (which includes Teterboro, and other smaller airports) that was moved from JFK control to PHL. Extremely unlikely this move (which even if going poorly) would impact a BOS-CMH flight.

It shows as ATC congestion, whatever that means:

I’m not disagreeing that ATC congestion is the issue, I was just doubting that the ATC congestion is related to moving the control of the EWR air space from Westbury to Philadelphia.

I tried searching for an answer to this -- I had a flight yesterday that I had booked using a trip credit (the trip credit was from another flight last month that I voluntarily cancelled a few days out.) My flight yesterday was outright cancelled a few hours before departure time because of weather, and the first alternative offered was more than 24 hours later. I went through the process of applying for a refund, as instructed. But will AA typically refund back to the credit card in a situation like this, or will they just "refund" the trip credit? Meaning AA would not be giving back any cash because of the flight cancellation.

Totally understand and am used to weather delays out of ORD but this one has me stumped.

AA 2733 ORD-PIT was cancelled today because of weather. Incoming plane arrived last night. Clear weather at ORD and PIT and everywhere in between. If course, no other flights available until tomorrow.

Could someone please let me know if they see weather as the cause of delay on flight aware or elsewhere?

The notes on EF do indicate 'canceled due to weather conditions'. However the plane arrived at ORD from ATL last night (and so far hasn't been assigned to any other flights) so I'm perplexed. There is no weather anywhere in between ORD and PIT either.

My only guess is that the crew is out of place due to weather, but considering ORD is a hub for AA I tend to challenge blaming the crenelation on weather.

Several flights cancelled from dca to ord and delays to bos as well. Not able to find a flight until tomorrow. Is this more air traffic control issues? Called exp line. Was supposed to be an hour. It's bern 90 minutes and now the exp line is not even answering..just a busy signal...grrrr...

Same issue here, couldn’t get through on the phone and Twitter refused to rebook me onto AS. Ended up canceling and rebooking with AS directly.

ATC probably doesn't help, but it's weather primarily. The storms yesterday afternoon destroyed the airports from NYC down to DC, tons of cancellations and major delays. This is the after effects of that, with more storms on the way this afternoon.

My flight to London was cancelled July 4 and AA offered hotel reimbursem*nt. Rather than wait in line for hours I headed to the local CLT Courtyard. I submitted a customer service request a few days later noting the $150 for the hotel room and $20 for a sandwich, but have yet to receive a response. I would be overjoyed with 5000 miles. I would be overjoyed with a response.

Got to the airport yesterday morning, After clearing TSA, found out in the Admirals Club that our rebooked flight was also cancelled. They could not get us (4 PAX including a 7 year old) until the next day (today, Monday)@ 8 AM on a connecting flight via PHL with a 12 hour layover arriving CMH @ 9:17 PM (!). Rented a car a DROVE from BOS => CMH (11 hours).

Also waiting for a hotel refund from AA for a 23 hour flight delay from London. As the flight was from the UK I'm also entitled to 600 euro compensation under UK law. Tried to expedite things via a message to Twitter but the only reply I get is that 'they're working on it'. Wondering how long this will take.....
