- Skyrim still holds hidden Easter eggs, like a SpongeBob reference in Alftand, keeping gamers engaged.
- The SpongeBob Easter egg was discovered in Alftand by Redditor sushchestvovaniye, sparking excitement.
- The hidden secret in Skyrim may have been included in a mod, prompting speculation from users.
An eagle-eyed Skyrim fan online appears to have discovered a hidden SpongeBob Easter egg in Alftand, one of the game's Dwemer Ruins. Just when it seems as though gamers have discovered just about every secret in Skyrim, another appears out of nowhere.
Just like every other Bethesda game, Skyrim is filled with small Easter eggs hidden away for players to find. It's never quite clear when everything hidden in the game has been discovered, which is part of the magic as to why Skyrim remains so popular almost 13 years after its initial launch. Late last year, gamers found a surprise Titanic Easter Egg in Skyrim, adding to the idea that Bethesda likes to reference other franchises in its games. In 2024, most would believe that gamers have found everything that Skyrim has to offer, but this is proven to be incorrect, time and time again.

Hilarious Skyrim Clip Shows Player Getting Divorced at The Worst Possible Time
A Skyrim player online shares a hilarious clip, in which their wife Ysolda speaks to them about separating at the worst possible moment.
Redditor sushchestvovaniye shared an image of the newly discovered Skyrim Easter egg, which they discovered in the Dwemer Ruins of Alftand. Hidden in a pile of rocks is a square design, with carvings that look suspiciously like SpongeBob SquarePants. Although it could be a coincidence, looking at the similarities, it's hard to imagine that this could happen accidentally. Several in the thread even compared it to DoodleBob, which is certainly a valid point. Unfortunately, the user never mentioned exactly where they discovered this SpongeBob reference, although it being located next to a Dwemer pipe while looking south on the compass could offer a hint for those looking to find it for themselves.
Gamer Finds SpongeBob SquarePants in Skyrim Dwemer Ruin
How this secret has gone unnoticed for so long is extremely surprising, although some users in the thread had a theory about how it might have happened. While there are plenty of amazing Skyrim mods out there, many of them include undocumented changes and Easter eggs of their own. Some believe that this may have been included as part of a mod, although sushchestvovaniye has yet to respond to questions about whether this is the vanilla version of Skyrim.
The fact that Easter eggs are still being found in Skyrim is awesome, and hopefully, Bethesda will take the same approach to The Elder Scrolls 6. While it isn't clear exactly when the game will be released, it remains one of the biggest upcoming RPGs that people are excited about right now. If The Elder Scrolls 6 does eventually feature a ton of hidden Easter eggs like other Bethesda titles, it could be a game that the community is talking about for many years to come.
